25TH VICTORIAN TEACHERS’ GAMES CANCELLED,
POSTPONED TO 2022
The Department of Education and Training (DET) is continuing to monitor and act on the advice of the Victorian Chief Health Officer and the Department of Health in relation to coronavirus (COVID-19).
Public health restrictions, including restrictions placed on leaving home, community sport, hospitality, tours, transport, entertainment and accommodation are currently in place in relation to events such as the Victorian Teachers’ Games (VTG), across both metropolitan and regional Victoria.
With ongoing uncertainty around such restrictions, as well as the operational constraints, challenges and risks associated with delivering the VTG during the state’s recent COVID-19 outbreak, it is with a heavy heart that the DET confirms the cancellation of the 25th Victorian Teachers’ Games in September 2021.
The 25th edition of VTG was scheduled to be held over 4 days from Sunday 19 September to Wednesday 22 September throughout the City of Greater Geelong.
Delivering such a highly complex event in these challenging circumstances presents significant risks to VTG participants, partners, conveners, suppliers, venues and volunteers, as well as the wider community. As a result, our priority is to keep Victorian teachers, their communities and VTG stakeholders safe and healthy throughout this time.
We are deeply disappointed that the Victorian education community will not get the opportunity to connect with their peers and enjoy the Games for a second consecutive year.
A full refund will be granted to registered participants, who will be contacted directly regarding this.
DET has proudly presented the VTG since 1996, and in 2021 the event was set to bring together around 3,000 Victorian educators. While the VTG cannot proceed in 2021, we now turn our attention to planning and preparing for our 25th anniversary event to return to VTG’s home shores of Geelong from 18-21 September 2022.
We thank all educators across Victoria for your continued commitment and hard work in what has been a challenging teaching and learning environment throughout the pandemic. With the anticipated transition to a post-COVID world, we look forward to welcoming you back to VTG in 2022, as a highlight event on the DET calendar.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY
4 guys who became friends growing up playing basketball locally. All playing for the same state club Corio bay stingrays. Blessed to be able to chuck on some jerseys once again, come back together and relive the good old days.
Thanks VTG for having us,
we had a blast!
You get to try a range of sports that you only dream of doing. You share the experience with a great group of friends, staff and volunteers!
Definitely joining a team of teachers from another school, and managing to take out silver lasertag and bronze in dodgeball! We were amazed and had so much fun! Also, going out to the social events and seeing so many teachers in one spot having a good time!
